Arts
Creativity Abounds
USM students at all grade levels are deeply immersed in the fine arts and enjoy many opportunities for creative expression.
Instruction in the visual arts begins at the preprimary level and continues through the Upper School. Music, chorus, dance, and drama are incorporated throughout the curriculum. Middle and Upper School music students participate in the Wisconsin School Music Association District Festival with qualifying students continuing on to the State Festival. Many students also are involved in orchestra, band, and jazz band. Fourth graders participate in the Milwaukee Art Museum Docent program, in which students prepare and present talks on their favorite artworks to parents and classmates. The Middle School and Upper School each stage two drama productions during the school year.
The wide range of skills students develop by being involved in the arts transfers beyond the classroom and is carried forward into college and professional life.
