Affording a USM Education
How affordable is a University School education?
The Grants and Aid Committee works in partnership with many parents to make a USM education affordable. We are committed to serving well-qualified students at every socio-economic level and financial aid is available for students in junior kindergarten through grade twelve. About 25% of our students receive some form of financial assistance.
Approximately $1.3 million of need-based aid was distributed to USM students for the 2007-08 academic year. Each year, a portion of the Grant and Aid budget is set aside for "affordability grants" to assist families in special circumstances who would not ordinarily qualify for need-based aid.
Grants and aid awards do not need to be repaid; but parents do need to reapply each year. Unless there is a significant change in the financial capabilities of the families, we try to provide a consistent level of support for students. We expect recipients, as we do all USM students, to work hard, be good citizens, and to contribute to the life of the School.
USM utilizes the services of FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment to determine the need of the family. In making an award, USM uses the FACTS report as a guide to funding a portion of the difference between tuition and the expected contribution of the parents. All financial aid information and awards are confidential.
