Early Learners
University School introduces students to a wide variety of learning experiences at an early age. Our enriching environment sparks interest and creates enthusiasm every day. In our Lower School, children in prekindergarten (age 3) through grade four build skills and knowledge, learn how to think, and develop positive habits and qualities of character that last a lifetime.
Our Lower School curriculum sets high academic standards. Integrated into every content area are the core subjects: comprehensive reading, writing, math, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Art, music, dance, physical education, library, and technology encourage our students to express themselves intellectually and creatively. Our children develop a passion for discovery and learning in classrooms, in arts facilities, and in well-equipped science and technology labs designed for young children. Along the way, Lower School students also grow in strength of values—learning to be kind, honest, trustworthy, fair, and respectful.
Philosophy
University School students become enthusiastic, self-directed learners because we make sure learning is gratifying and meaningful to them. Our goal is for children to develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically in a nurturing, supportive, and stimulating environment.
We provide an enriching environment, fostering self-confidence and allowing children to grow to their potential in a safe and secure place. Children are cared for, validated, challenged, encouraged, listened to, and valued.
Our teachers foster a love of learning through a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated activities. Students assume progressively greater responsibility for their learning as they move from the Preprimary through the Lower School grades. |
