Middle School
Middle School 5th Grade Science Teacher
University School of Milwaukee seeks a full time 5th Grade Science Teacher for the 2016-2017 school year. A Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Science/Science Education and at least two years of experience teaching science at the middle school level are preferred. Applicants should be energetic, passionate about, and knowledgeable in both the content of Middle School science and the teaching of it. Experience with educational technology is also a requirement. Applicants should be collegial, willing to work on a team, show evidence of lifelong learning, and enjoy working with adolescents. We value teachers who are actively involved in the life of our school community. The fifth grade science curriculum focuses on earth science, life science, and physical science. Teachers take the responsibility for developing and updating curriculum, and they must stay informed about current trends in the teaching of science. The fifth grade science teacher should possess good questioning skills and the ability to introduce and reinforce scientific principles using a variety of teaching methodologies. The scientific method in laboratory is introduced. Data collection through observation and drawing conclusions in laboratory activities are a part of the lab experience. Projects and hands-on activities are a part of the curriculum. Opportunities exist to integrate subject matter with other subject areas in the fifth grade.
