School Calendar

University School of Milwaukee publishes certain calendar information to the public website. Additional calendar items for students, parents, alumni and parents of alumni, and other constituency groups can be viewed on myUSM.

Calendar items display the event or activity name, start and end times (if applicable), and the location. Clicking on the event or activity name will take you to a detail page, which shows any additional details that have been published, along with a contact name with a link to email that person.

    Speaker Series: Pressure in High-achieving Schools-and Pathways to Fostering Resilience

    Suniya S. Luthar is Foundation Professor of Psychology at Arizona State University, Professor Emerita at Columbia University’s Teachers College, and Founder and Executive Director of Authentic Connections, a science-based, non-profit group committed to maximizing individuals’ well-being in their communities, schools, and work settings. Her research involves vulnerability and resilience among various populations including youth in poverty, teens in upper-middle class families, and parents (especially mothers) in high-achieving, stressful communities.
    In addition to numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, Dr. Luthar has published several books and has been Chair of a grant review study section at the National Institutes of Health. She has held several leadership positions in science, currently elected to be President of the American Psychological Association’s APA’s Division 7 (Developmental). Dr. Luthar is a Fellow of the American Association for Psychological Science and is also Fellow of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Divisions 7 and 37.   From APA, she received a Dissertation Award and the Boyd McCandless Young Scientist Award. Other awards include a Research Scientist Development (K) Award from the National Institutes of Health, an American Mensa Foundation Award for Excellence in Research on Intelligence, and an award for Integrity and Mentorship from the Society for Research in Child Development's Asian Caucus. Luthar’ work is frequently cited in major news outlets in the US including the New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, NPR, PBS, and CNN, as well as overseas, in Europe, Asia, and Australia.
