"Books for Bravery" Brings Students, Firefighters, and Law Enforcement Together on 9/11
A group of presenters comprised of North Shore firefighters, police officers, and members of the U.S. military visited 5th-grade students and shared their memories of September 11 on Friday afternoon in the Middle School Commons.
Each presenter shared where they were, and the thoughts that ran through their minds during the tragic events of September 11, 2001, before delivering a book entitled "The Little White Truck with the Big Mission," to 5th-grade students.
The book is based on the true story of a Vietnam Veteran and Battalion Chief retired from the Milwaukee Fire Department who transported a piece of 9/11 steel from New York back to Milwaukee in 2011.
A second, free event honoring the 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers that lost their lives in 9/11 will take place from 5-9 p.m. at the Milwaukee County War Memorial on Friday evening.
