The SEEK (Speak, Engage, Empower, Know) Diversity committee is a group of more than 50 members of the University School of Milwaukee community who meet monthly to discuss issues of diversity and inclusion. The ranks of this committee have grown from single digits to its current size over the past five years as more and more individuals at the school have expressed an interest and a desire to be involved in these conversations. The group is made up of faculty, staff, students, and parents, and its work is fully supported the school administrators, who regularly attend meetings.
SEEK’s mission is to cultivate a supportive school community that instills in all members an appreciation for individuals and their diversity. To educate themselves and others, they ask important questions; gather helpful resources; encourage thoughtful conversations; and advocate for increased equity, opportunity, and involvement. To prepare our students for the opportunities of a global and diverse world, SEEK promotes an inclusive education in a pluralistic setting and makes recommendations for school improvement.
Individuals who are interested in learning more about SEEK’s efforts, or becoming involved, are encouraged to contact co-chairs Kate Gay, Angie Yuan, Maria Rodriguez, Sarah Dugan, Eric Schad, and Margy Stratton '84.2019-20 Meeting Schedule
