COVID-19 Information

As a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and following Wisconsin's "Safer at Home" order extension issued April 16, 2020, University School of Milwaukee has moved to USM@HOME, its distance learning plan, to ensure continued student learning and community engagement. Although our physical campus and classrooms will remain closed from Monday, March 30 through the end of the school year, Wednesday, June 10, our faculty remain prepared to meet the needs of every USM student, from prekindergarten through 12th grade. All extracurricular activities during this time have also been postponed or canceled.

  • Is USM closed?

    While the campus is closed through the end of the 2019-20 school year, in compliance with Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers' Safer at Home order extension issued on April 16, 2020, students in all grades are currently utilizing distance learning through the school's USM@HOME plan. All buildings, playgrounds, and fields are currently closed to visitors.
  • What is USM@HOME?

    USM@HOME is the school's distance learning plan, intended to be used during an extended campus closure. This plan allows USM to maintain continuity of teaching and learning while also allowing for virtual interaction amongst faculty and students. You can learn more about USM@HOME at
  • Where can I get technology support during distance learning?

    Our technology support team is available to help families as needed. Please submit a support request and a member of the team will respond as soon as possible.
  • What is the status of school-sponsored events?

    In general, all school-sponsored events between now and June 10, 2020 have been moved to a virtual event or canceled. More details are available on the school's public calendar. All spring sports have been suspended. (Parents, students, and teachers can also view the password-protected myUSM calendar for more event information.)
  • What is the status of school-sponsored travel?

    In general, most school-sponsored travel for students, faculty, and staff scheduled between now and the summer has been canceled. The 8th grade Washington, D.C. trip has tentatively been rescheduled to June 1, 2020, and more information will be shared with parents as it is known.
  • What if I need to retrieve something from campus?

    Students, teachers, and staff were asked to take all essential personal items and technology home with them prior to the school's spring break in March. Anyone who needs to retrieve an item from a locker, classroom, or other location on campus should send a message to to make this request. All visitors will be asked to complete a health and travel information form.
  • Are USM's summer programs still scheduled to be offered?

    Summer I.D.E.A.S. programming and the Summer Institute for Academic Achievement are both still expected to be offered as scheduled. More information can be found at
  • Will Commencement still be held?

    Commencement, originally scheduled for Saturday, May 16, has been postponed. It has tentatively been rescheduled for Saturday, June 27, with a backup date of Saturday, Aug. 8. USM hopes to share an update by no later than the beginning of June about the date and specific plans. We hope to also reschedule senior dinner and are working on plans for the honors assembly, senior send-off, lifer brunch, and tower signing.
  • Will the Summer Spark innovation symposium still be held?

    Summer Spark 2020 has been canceled and refunds have been issued to all registered educators. We look forward to hosting Summer Spark again in 2021.
  • Will Reunion Weekend still be held?

    The decision was made to postpone Reunion Weekend, including all reunion parties for 5s and 0s and the 50th reunion for the Class of 1970, due to uncertainties around travel, facility rentals, and other social distancing measures currently in place in Wisconsin. We look forward to having these alumni celebrate with us in 2021.
