Victory Bell Has a New Home

University School of Milwaukee’s victory bell, donated by the Milwaukee Country Day School Class of 1964 and rededicated in 1990, has recently been relocated near the Don Forti Stadium entrance. The bell was previously mounted on the wall outside of the Quadracci Lobby. The new location is more accessible to athletes and also close to the Heritage Path. Students will have the opportunity to ring the bell after athletic victories, and may even develop their own traditions surrounding who rings the bell and when.

“I’m excited to see how the students incorporate the bell into their USM athletic experiences,” said USM Director of Athletics Luke Houdek. “I’m happy it’s now located in a spot that’s more accessible.”

Engraved on the bell is the phrase “Alis Volat Propriis,” which is Latin for “He flies with his own wings” and was part of Milwaukee Country Day School’s crest. Milwaukee Country Day School was a predecessor school of University School.
