USM Celebrates the Chinese New Year

University School of Milwaukee students celebrated the Chinese New Year on Feb. 4 with a variety of events. Upper School students enrolled in Chinese II invited Lower School students to participate in a variety of Chinese New Year-related activities in Mellowes Hall, including sampling Chinese food, making a variety of craft projects like origami pigs and Chinese lanterns, and even viewing actual Chinese celebrations via virtual reality goggles. The celebrations concluded with a special dragon parade throughout Lower School. 2019 is the year of the pig according to the Chinese zodiac calendar.

Many thanks to Haiyun Lu, Upper School Chinese teacher, and all the students who participated to make it a fun and festive day.
