University School of Milwaukee hosted two award-winning authors on Tuesday, March 12. Soman Chainani, author of “The School for Good and Evil” series, visited 3rd- and 4th-grade students. He shared anecdotes about his childhood, and how frequent viewings of Disney movies when he was young inspired his love of fairytales—and his desire to create a new twist on the common “happily ever after” ending.
In addition, Alan Gratz visited with Middle School students on the same day. He spoke at grade-level breakout groups and question and answer sessions for 7th- and 8th-grade students, enjoyed lunch with a group of Middle School students and English teachers, and spoke during a Middle School assembly for students in grades 5 through8. Throughout the day he spoke about his newest book “Refugee,” which students had read in advance of his visit. He also spoke about the writing and publishing process, the worldwide refugee crisis, and more.
Many thanks to USM’s Parents’ Association, which sponsored both author visits.
