Alumni Association Hosts History Lecture Series

University School of Milwaukee alumni and friends had a chance to revisit their high school days at a special lecture series event held over three evenings in April that featured retired USM history teachers Steve Bruemmer, Mark Hilgendorf, and John “J.S.” Stephens.

During the history lecture series, the retired faculty members, along with Carolyn Stephens and current Upper School History Department faculty Dr. Henry Wend and Joe Eason, focused on one central theme: dissent in American history. Each lecture was a unique and varied take on the theme of dissent.

Lecture #1: Joe Eason ("A Country Founded on Dissent: Religious Groups in Colonial America") and John "J.S." Stephens ("Dissent in the 1780s: Anti-federalists Smell Rat")

Lecture #2: Steve Bruemmer ("Dissent Before the Civil War: The Crusade Against Slavery") and Dr. Henry Wend ("Dissent 1880-1900: The Populist Party")

Lecture #3: Carolyn Stephens ("Two Hundred Years of Dissent: The Women's Movement in the United States") and Mark Hilgendorf ("Dissent in the 1960s: Political, Social, Cultural Protest")

The lectures were held in the newly remodeled alumni room.
