Vivian Cucu ’25 Selected to Perform at 2019 Wisconsin State Music Conference
Vivian Cucu ’25 has been selected to perform a viola solo as part of the Exemplary Performance Recital at the 2019 Wisconsin State Music Conference hosted by the Wisconsin Music Educators Association. Cucu was selected out of 449 vocal, instrumental, and ensembles identified as exemplary performers at the Wisconsin School Music Association state solo and ensemble festivals held this past spring.
“This is a huge honor for any student, but especially for a 7th grader,” said Steve Johnson, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School orchestra teacher. “She should be especially proud of herself for putting in the countless practice hours that it takes to perform at this level.”
Cucu, who has been playing since she was 4 years old and practices for up to an hour each day, is taking it all in stride. “I guess it’s a big deal, but I don’t get too nervous about these things,” she said. “I’m excited that I got invited to play, that’s never happened to me before so that’s really cool.” In addition to playing for University School of Milwaukee’s orchestra, Cucu also plays for the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra.
