Pfister Hotel Artist-in-residence Visits 4th Grade
University School of Milwaukee 4th grade art students were excited to participate in a workshop hosted by Rosy Petri, the Pfister Hotel’s 11th artist-in-residence. Petri, who is a Milwaukee-based multidisciplinary artist, showed the students how to make their own portraits using pieces of fabric. Petri’s visit was coordinated by Christina Dresang, Lower School art teacher and Visual Arts department chair, who was excited to show students a different way to create self-portraits.
“When Rosie introduced herself to students, she explained that she just started creating her distinct style of fiber portraits about one year ago by combining her love of photography and quilting,” said Dresang. “I am always encouraging students to take risks and push their creative boundaries. This workshop introduced them to new techniques and sparked their imaginations to dream of possibilities for their future works of art.”
The students’ portraits will be on display in the school’s Werner Family Art Gallery beginning Dec. 10.
