University School of Milwaukee hosted the second annual Wildcat Qualifier, a FIRST Robotics FTC competition, on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019. A total of 16 teams from 12 area high schools and middle schools competed, with six teams advancing to state. In addition to USM’s own Wildcats Blue team, the other teams advancing to state are: Rising RhinoBots from Wisconsin Hills Middle School; Robohounds from Shorewood School District; Supposable Thumbs from Heritage Christian School; Kraken Pinion from Homestead High School; and Team Hazmat from Brookfield Central and Brookfield East High Schools.
Three teams from USM competed at the event, including the Wildcats Gold team (11th and 12th grade students); the Wildcats Blue team (9th and 10th grade students); and the Wildcats 8x8 (8th grade students). Of the three USM teams, the Wildcats 8x8 team ranked the highest at third place. The Wildcats Blue team, meanwhile, received the first-place trophy for the design award.
Congratulations to all who competed, and thanks to the many volunteers who helped make the event possible!
