Congratulations to Lafayette Crump ’91, who has been named the recipient of the 2020 Alumni Service Award. He was honored by the USM Alumni Association during the Upper School Honors Assembly, held virtually on Thursday, May 14. The award is given in recognition of his achievements in working toward the betterment of USM and the greater Milwaukee community that it serves. Crump is managing member of Crump Law Firm, chief operating officer of Prism Technical, adjunct professor of law at Marquette University, and the deputy chief of staff and chief diversity, vendor and engagement officer for the Milwaukee 2020 Democratic National Convention Host Committee.
Crump has been an active and committed member of the USM community since his graduation. He is the proud parent of alumna Kendra Crump ’15, served on USM’s Alumni Association board, is a USM Fund donor and past phone-a-thon volunteer, and served as USM’s career services networking and mentorship advisor.
Crump is heavily involved in serving the Milwaukee community through his work as immediate past chair of the Safe & Sound Board of Directors; service on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Visit Milwaukee Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee, and the Wauwatosa Equity & Inclusion Commission; and his work with many other local organizations including The Milwaukee Business Council, Artists Working in Education, and Black Child Development Institute.
In addition to receiving USM’s Trustee’s Cup, Crump was named to the “Milwaukee Business Journal’s” 40 Under 40 in 2011, earned “Milwaukee Times’” Black Excellence Award in 2013, earned Foley & Lardner’s Lyndford Lardner Community Service Award. He also earned the Duke University School of Law Julian Abele Award and was named Duke University’s Alumni Caller of the Year.
Crump’s contributions to the community through the many organizations in which he has been involved, and the many hours he devoted to USM as both a parent and alumnus, have distinguished him as a cherished member of the USM community deserving of the Alumni Service Award recognition.About the Alumni Service Award
The USM Alumni Association introduced the Alumni Service Award in 1984 to recognize University School of Milwaukee or predecessor school graduates for their service. The award is given to an alumnus or alumna by the USM Alumni Association, in grateful recognition of achievements in working toward the betterment of University School of Milwaukee and to the community which it serves. Since its inception, 38 alumni have been recognized based on the criteria of this esteemed award.
