8th Grade Students Honored

Six students were honored at the 8th grade Online Awards Ceremony held on Tuesday, June 2. The awards highlighted both academic and athletic achievement. The three academic awards reflect the school’s Portrait of a USM Graduate and honor those students who exemplify citizenship, leadership, and learning. “We are very proud of all of the 8th grade students for finishing the year strong,” said Elaine Griffin, head of Middle School. “We acknowledge these students for their outstanding contributions as learners, leaders, citizens, or athletes in our Middle School program.”

Citizen Award:
Anjali George
Nominated by 8th grade students and the 8th grade faculty team, this award recognizes one student whose participation in activities both at school and beyond best supports the spirit of University School. The student is nominated and voted on by the 8th grade students and the 8th grade faculty team.

Leader Award:
Jackson Darr
Nominated by the 8th grade team, this award recognizes one student who demonstrates strong leadership qualities in their daily interactions and relationships at University School. The winner is chosen by the Middle School leaders, Elaine Griffin and Brad Dunning, and the Ethical Leadership program liaison.

Learner Awards:
Sydney Meinholz and Asha Metcalfe
Nominated by the 8th grade faculty team, this award recognizes two students who exemplify academic success in 8th grade at USM. Academic success is reflected in the student’s dedication to learning and expanding their knowledge, skills, and abilities; willingness to take risks and to learn from mistakes; and strong relationships with classmates and teachers, among other attributes. The winner is chosen by the 8th grade faculty team.
In addition, two students were honored for their outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, and commitment to health and wellness in athletics and physical education.

8th Grade Sportsmanship Awards:
Nathan Steinbach and Isabel Werner
The Sportsmanship Award winners are determined by USM’s Athletic Department. These students excel in both the classroom and on the field while demonstrating positive sportsmanship, willingness to work hard, and strong leadership skills.
