USM Releases Fall Reopening Plan

University School of Milwaukee released its fall reopening plan on Wednesday, July 22. USM’s leadership team developed the plan over several months with input and guidance from many leading experts, including a pediatrician, a pediatric pulmonologist, an emergency room doctor, an epidemiologist, and a mental health expert. The safety of our community is paramount, and our focus is on both the academic needs and the mental well-being of our students and their families, and our faculty and staff, as we strive to provide an exceptional PK–12 independent school education.

The full plan is available here, and the reopening website is available at

Highlights of the plan include:
  • On-campus classes for all students will start on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
  • Families that want or need their children to learn online will have an option for a synchronous (real-time) online experience.
  • USM’s large campus and classroom sizes allow us to spread children out with appropriate social distancing (6-foot spacing for all students and teachers) in all classrooms and community spaces, as well as using our 120-acre campus to its full potential.
  • Face coverings will be required for all adults and all students in grades 1–12, and recommended for all other younger students.
  • Daily health screenings will be required for all students, faculty, and staff, and for any visitors to campus.
  • New filtration technology is being added to all air handler systems on campus to help kill pathogens and improve air quality.
This is a living document that will be updated, expanded, and altered as we continue our work over the next month. Updates will be posted to the reopening plan website at
