Using Art to Explore Power

The first art exhibition of the school year is currently on display in the Werner Family Art Gallery. The exhibit explores the theme of power as interpreted by last year’s 7th grade artists (current 8th grade students).

Students researched the theme and were encouraged to explore all interpretations of power until they found a personal connection to the theme and the work they chose to create. Students then participated in a pitch session where each child shared their concept and gained feedback from their peers prior to starting the work. “With the exception of the overall theme, everything is self-directed,” said Sarah Markwald, Middle School art teacher and Fine Arts department chair. “Students choose how to interpret the theme and decide which medium they want to use to execute their work.”
