University School of Milwaukee’s Esports team ended its season in December, making it through to the fifth round of PlayVS Fall Majors Playoffs. That makes USM’s team among the elite eight teams, out of roughly 330 teams across the country. PlayVS is the official esports program of the National Federation of State High School Associations.
“We played valiantly but lost to an impressive team,” said Dr. Laurie Barth Walczak, Upper School English teacher and esports coach., “A particularly noteworthy moment happened when our team decided to restart a match because the other team experienced a glitch. If we had continued the match, we would have been at a distinct advantage, but Xavier [Barth ’22], Kush [Daruwala ’22], and Bonde [Borca ’22] recognized that doing so wasn’t good sportsmanship. Of their own accord and without anyone telling them to do so, they stopped the play, restarted the game, and upheld the Common Trust.”
Congratulations to team members Xavier Barth ’22, Kush Daruwala ’22, Bonde Borca ’22, and their team manager, Kevin Hildebrand, on an impressive season!
