Major Scholarships for Upper School Students

USM offers four major scholarships for students applying to Upper School: the Joe Lubar Scholarship, STAR Scholarship, Milwaukee College Prep Scholarship, and the John Stephens Scholarship. All scholarships are for four years and cover the cost of full tuition.

Joe Lubar Scholarship
In 2012 the Lubar Family established the Joseph Lubar Scholarship to honor the memory of their son, Joe Lubar ’09. This is a four-year, full tuition scholarship for a student new to USM entering the ninth grade. The scholarship recognizes an outstanding student from the greater Milwaukee area who has demonstrated academic potential, leadership, and excellence in extracurricular involvements and community service.

John Stephens Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes the distinguished career of long time teacher, John Stephens (often referred to as “JS”). During his 46 year tenure with USM (and Milwaukee Country Day School) Mr. Stephens served as Upper School Head, Director of Admissions, and Department Chair of the History Department. This scholarship was established by a USM alum to recognize Mr. Stephens devotion to teaching. This scholarship can be awarded to a rising 9th grader from USM’s Middle School or a new student to the 9th grade.

STAR Scholarship
Established in 2014 by Michael White and the White family, this scholarship recognizes the achievement of a student in the areas of academics, leaderships, service, and extra-curricular activities. Scholarship recipients must be new to USM entering the 9th grade, reside in the greater Milwaukee area, and be the member of a traditionally underrepresented minority group.

Milwaukee College Prep Scholarships
These two scholarships, established first in 2014 and again in 2015 by several USM families with strong ties to Milwaukee College Prep (MCP) school, are offered to two outstanding students entering the 9th grade. The scholarship recipient must be an alumni of MCP with a strong academic record and character. This scholarship covers tuition and other expenses that comprise the cost of attendance.

Merit Scholarships for Students in Grades 7-11

Merit scholarships are awarded to students new to USM in grades 7-11. These partial scholarships are awarded to students with an outstanding academic record and potential to contribute to the School in meaningful ways. There is no formal application for these scholarships; the credentials of an applicant’s admissions application are reviewed as part of the award process. Scholarships are awarded on a limited basis and if awarded, will be communicated to the family when a student is admitted to USM. Scholarship recipients will be required to provide regular updates about their academic and extra-curricular progress.

Endowed Scholarships

Dating back to our predecessor schools, we offer a variety of endowed partial scholarships. To qualify for one of these scholarships, a family must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAST application and meet the specific criteria of an endowed scholarship fund. Families who are awarded one of these scholarships will be notified by the Office of Enrollment Management. Scholarship recipients will be required to provide regular updates about their academic and extra-curricular progress.
