Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 - Self Help Skills

Please note that this event is for adults only (parents and care givers).

Help your child to gain important life skills that will benefit them in the classroom setting and throughout life. We will discuss a variety of topics including taking turns and sharing; listening when others are speaking; working through a personal upset; and accepting redirection. Understanding these life skills will help foster your child's social and emotional intelligence, as well as his or her ability to become kind and emphatic citizens. Prekindergarten faculty Muffie MacKedon Browne and Jennifer Keppler, who have a combined nearly 60 years of early childhood education instruction, will share their insight and tips for building these important skills.

Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 - Wellness

At University School, our preschool physical education curriculum focuses on many components of childhood wellness, including large muscle coordination, crossing midline, balance, and fun! These activities are designed to build on physical and emotional competency. Join wellness teachers Jane Keily and Jennifer Lee to learn about what you can do at home to create a healthy start for your little one. Dress comfortably—we'll be moving!

Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019 - Paint, Foam, and Fun

Move beyond crayons and Play-Doh. Explore new ways to engage your artistic child with creative art projects at home. Join our visual arts teacher Christina Dresang and junior kindergarten teacher Mary Jo Kendall to learn simple and practical takeaways to increase your repertoire of activity in the upcoming winter months.

Thursday, April 4, 2019 - Music and Motion

Visit our "petting zoo," where you and your child can try your hand at playing a variety of instruments, including hand bells, xylophones, drums, tambourines, and more. Preschool and Lower School music faculty members Ellen Shuler and Tracy Huffman will engage the whole family.

Tuesday, May 7, 2019 - Outdoor Education

Getting children outside is a wonderful way to spark their creativity and get them excited about learning. You will hear strategies for using the outdoor settings in your own back yard to fuel your child's interest in natural and environmental science. Early childhood educators Sue Jeffers and Emily Vertacnik '07 will also demonstrate how outdoor exploration can lead to literacy and journaling for even the youngest learners.
