Lower School and Middle School students enjoyed a special guest recently. Michael Timm, creator of the Mussel Madness board game, was on campus to speak with students about how he developed the game and why it’s important. The game challenges players to save the Great Lakes from invasive species like mussels, and seeks to engage players and build awareness. Timm, a former journalist, holds a master’s degree in freshwater science from UW-Milwaukee and is passionate about the Great Lakes.
In the game, players choose to cooperate or compete as they discover connections between the environment and the economy in a race to save the Great Lakes. Timm funded the development of 100 limited-edition copies of the game with help from a successful Kickstarter campaign. USM is a sponsor of the game.
